The Faculty of Dentistry, under the direct supervision of the Dean, Dr. Tarek Abu Ajwa, held a training workshop for the Faculty students selected to take the national unified examination on Saturday and Sunday, November 9-10, 2024. The workshop was attended by several faculty members and aimed to empower and prepare students both academically and practically for the exam in order to achieve good academic results.
he training workshop lectures began with the participation of 60 students from the Faculty of Dentistry. Dr. Iyad Shaarani delivered a scientific lecture on partial and complete removable dental prosthetics, shedding light on maxillofacial prosthetics and implant-supported prosthetics, as well as how to use retention components and dressings.
Dr. Hisham Afif also gave a lecture on restorative dental materials (composite, amalgam, GIC, and compomer), highlighting the materials used in root canal fillings and the concept of pulpotomy, which refers to the treatment of inflamed pulp and how to re-treat it. Meanwhile, Dr. Shadi Azzawi spoke about clinical psychology, including methods of dealing with children and individuals with special needs in the dental clinic, shedding light on the principles of dental prevention in children, how to crown primary teeth, the most prominent methods for pulp and restorative treatment of primary teeth, and the materials used in these treatments.
The training workshop lasted for two consecutive days, during which the presenting doctors addressed various topics in dental sciences. Dr. Imad Al-Ayyubi explained in his lecture the fundamental considerations in dental materials, along with the main concepts in restorative dentistry, which include direct and indirect restorations. He acquainted the students with coronal pulp devices, pulp diseases, how to maintain pulp vitality, identifying the working length, and preparing root canals, as well as how to manage carious cases.
Regarding oral and maxillofacial surgery, Dr. Zaven Karapet discussed in her scientific lecture the topic of local anesthesia by infiltration and highlighted the main complications of anesthesia. She also shed light on some general diseases and the first aid measures for cases of fractures, infections, cysts, and tumors. Meanwhile, Dr. Hiba Al-Halo concluded the training workshop by discussing the principles of preparing fixed prosthetics in terms of color, impression materials, and the basics of prosthetics over dental implants. She clarified to the students the nature of root posts, the types and designs of bridges, and the adhesives used, illustrating her points with previous clinical experiences.
This training workshop is a scientific initiative aimed at establishing an academic foundation for dental students, spearheaded by the presidency of Al-Wataniya Private University and the Deanship of the Faculty of Dentistry. It seeks to enrich and develop their knowledge, motivating them to work hard and strive to pass the national unified exam for medical colleges with the best desired results.
