With gracious hosting and sponsorship from Al- Wataniya Private University, the SABR Foundation for Creativity and Development, in collaboration with the Mart Charitable Team, held a workshop entitled “How to Be Creative” on Sunday, June 11, 2023. The workshop was prepared and presented by Dr. Hussam Al-Aswad and Dr. Marwan Al-Rez in the Central Auditorium of the College of Administrative and Financial Sciences at Al-Wataniya Private University.
The workshop aimed to discuss the concept of creative madness, as stated by Dr. Marwan Al-Rez, who holds an Honorary Doctorate in creative ideas from Britain and a Master’s Degree in Business Administration from the Faculty of Economics at Damascus University. That he said: “This workshop aims to reveal the significant development that students need today to start their professional careers, as it will be full of difficulties and challenges that require a lot of effort to move towards change, which is based on creative thinking that creates great added value for its owner.”
In a discussion about the target audience of the workshop “How to Be Creative,” Dr. Hussam Al-Aswad, who holds a PhD in Accounting from the British Charisma University and is a lecturer at the College of Administrative and Financial Sciences at Al-Wataniya Private University, said: “The workshop targets all students from different academic years to enable them to move from being mere recipients of academic learning through rote memorization to becoming active participants through practical application of ideas and benefiting from various practical experiences. This will transform them into creative students capable of generating, crystallizing, and applying ideas optimally in real life.”
The training workshop was launched at the College of Administrative and Financial Sciences in the presence of the Dean, Dr. Hayan Hamdan, several professors, and technical staff members. It was organized by the National Union of Syrian Students Branch at Al-Wataniya Private University and covered various topics such as “What is Creativity?” “How is Creative Thinking Formed?” “Is Creativity Reserved for Some People Over Others?” “Being Yourself is the Basis for Creative Growth,” “Is Creativity Linked to Simplicity?” “How to be Creative?” and “The Role of Creativity in Excellence and Success.”
As for the actual benefit to the students, Dr. Hussam Al-Aswad pointed out that “many students possess creative skills but struggle with self-marketing, so each student needs a key to enter the job market and we work on developing and enhancing their creative side.” In the same context, Dr. Marwan Al-Rez spoke about how to reach creative madness, as it requires breaking away from the norm and taking high risks to reach leadership and excellence, which is achieved through several steps including feeding, developing, training and stimulating creative thinking by consuming traditional ideas to reach new and innovative ones.
The College of Administrative and Financial Sciences is witnessing tangible development in attracting high-quality training workshops aimed at preparing a whole generation of creative students capable of building their careers on a solid scientific foundation and diverse comprehensive experiences.
