The joint scientific research article titled “DETERMINATION OF CONDITIONS FOR OBTAINING RADIOACTIVITY OF NITROGEN-13 ISOTOPE FOR MEDICAL USE BY NX2 DENSE PLASMA FOCUS DEVICE” was published in the St. Petersburg State Polytechnical University Journal- Vol. 16. No. 2 for the year 2023.
The research was conducted by Dr. Alaa Nassif from the Faculty of Pharmacy at Al-Wataniya Private University, along with researchers Prof. Dr. Walid Sahyoni, Dr. Ola Zidan, and Ms. Noha Kafa from Al-Baath University. The scientific research was published in the Scopus database.
The researchers think that in the paper, and the scientific benefit of this research lies in a theoretical study to calculate the value of the radioactivity of nitrogen-13 isotope required for use in positron emission tomography (PET) has been presented. The isotope is produced by deuteron beams from NX2 dense plasma focus device. First the effect of three factors was studied, namely, the deuterium gas density, exposure time and the repetition rate of the device. The results showed an increase in radioactivity as deuterium gas pressure decreased. It was next possible to obtain four radioactivity values, suitable for use in PET, by varying the two rest factors.
It is worth mentioning that these scientific researches add value to the record of scientific and academic achievements that elevate the level of Al-Wataniya Private University as a prestigious educational institution among Syrian universities in general, and private Syrian universities in particular. They also enhance the role of doctors and professors-researchers in formulating an advanced scientific approach based on scientific research as a common goal and purpose.
