Interactive Scientific Lecture for the Arch.Hasan Al-Halabi at the
Faculty of Architecture and Urban Planning
Under the gracious patronage of the Dean of the Faculty of Architecture and Urban Planning, Prof.Dr. Safwat Ibrahim Pasha, the College hosted Arch.Hasan Al-Halabi, a graduate of the Faculty of Architecture at Damascus University, on Monday, August 14, 2023, to prepare a scientific training lecture directed to the college students about architectural sketch as one of the pillars upon which the science of architecture is built.
In his conversation with the students, Arch.Hasan Al-Halabi emphasized that architecture engineering is one of the best academic choices for students as it combines science with art. He stated, “Theoretical subjects shape a successful architectural personality, while architectural design programs are primarily responsible for transforming ideas into digitally constructed engineering blocks. However, students should not rely on these programs before mastering manual skills and developing a broad architectural imagination.”
And towards creating positive incentives for students to engage in the field of Architecture Engineering, the Branch of the National Union of Syrian Students at Al-Wataniya Private University worked on organizing this scientific lecture, in which, Arch. Hasan Al-Halabi presented the most famous architectural designs throughout history, which have had significant importance in building human civilizations from ancient times until the present (such as the Fallingwater House , Opera House, Burj Khalifa, Burj Al Arab, Brutal Architecture, and others), shedding light on the most prominent architects who have achieved numerous individual accomplishments and whose works still serve as examples in the field of architectural design.
On the other hand, Arch.Hasan Al-Halabi discussed in the theoretical aspect the different types of sketches (decorative, executive, landscape, design, planning), explaining to students the important steps of sketch from time allocation to reading the sketch text and ultimately choosing the form of plan and mass that require them to be familiar with the project idea through analyzing the site and creating suitable plans, sections, and facades for the project ending with the main perspective.
This scientific lecture provided added value to students in both its academic and practical aspects based on their acquired scientific knowledge and its role in empowering students with a range of diverse skills and tools that serve the main objective of reviving heritage and architectural landmarks of human civilization.
