The First Musical Concert of Al-Wataniya Private University's Band and Choir

A Unique Musical Event Sets A New Standard for Syrian Universities

Believing that success is the combination of science and art, and striving to make Al-Wataniya Private University a scientific institution and a model of civilization to be emulated, the President of Al-Wataniya Private University, Dr. Ahed Khuzam, worked tirelessly to support young talents and elevate them to levels of excellence. That he was a generous giver who was present in every time and place.

 On Monday, June 12, 2023, Al-Wataniya Private University witnessed the launch of its first official music concert by the University’s Music Band and Choir led by Maestro Rami Darwish in a pioneering step among Syrian universities. A group of talented and unique students came together to form a beautiful image of creativity where instruments harmonized on one note with melodies escaping from the halls of imagination. They were able to perform a variety of musical compositions and pieces, creating a complete artistic masterpiece with colors and elements.

Prof. Dr. Ahed Khuzam opened the musical celebration with a speech that carried all the feelings of pride and joy for the presence of a group of young talents who worked hard and persevered to achieve their dreams. He pointed out the great attention given by Al-Wataniya Private University and the Branch of the National Union of Syrian Students in the university to develop their talents and provide support in all logistical, artistic, and musical aspects that would provide an appropriate environment for success and excellence.

 In a related context, Maestro Mr. Rami Darwish – founder and supervisor of the University’s Music Band and Choir – welcomed the official attendees represented by Prof. Dr. Ahed Khuzam, President of Al-Wataniya  Private  University, his deputy for scientific affairs Dr. Hazem Melli, Abdulkarim Al-Nasaan, President of the Branch of the National Union of Syrian Students in Al-Wataniya Private University, faculty members, artistic staff, and administrative officials in university colleges. He thanked all efforts made to ensure the success of this musical event and highlighted in his speech the continuous work from university leadership to support young talents since the establishment of the Music Band until now despite some obstacles that prevented its early launch. However, today it takes its first steps towards creativity and uniqueness.

After two years of hard work, which saw its successes come to light with the official launch of Al-Wataniya University’s Music Band and Choir at the end of the last academic year, the Music Band held its first official concert. The event was attended by a large crowd of Al-Wataniya University students and featured a special guest appearance by Mr. Jamil Ammari, a violin teacher at the Faculty of Music Education at Al- Baath University. Through its musical pieces and songs, the Band was able to touch hearts and leave a unique mark on those present with melodies that will remain etched in everyone’s minds.

The musical program included a variety of national, traditional, and Aleppo-style songs.

The presenter of the Ceremony, student Hind Kuja – a third year student in the Civil Engineering Department and a violinist – welcomed the honorable attendees, presenting the lyrical musical segments in the following order:

  1. Al-Wataniya Private University Anthem.
  2. A musical piece performed by the Music Band.
  3. The song “Between You and Me, Oh Night” performed by student Christina Belhous, a second-year student at the Faculty of Dentistry.
  4. The song “How” performed by Administrative and Financial Sciences graduate Qais Al-Sheikh Ibrahim.
  5. Song (I Heard the Sound of the Na’ura) performed by student Yazan Dbis, a fourth-year student at the Faculty of Dentistry.
  6. Song (If You Leave, Oh Eye) performed by student Sarah Al-Youssef, a second-year student at the Faculty of Dentistry.
  7. Song (Oh Sweetheart) performed by student Qais Al-Sheikh Ibrahim.
  8. Song (I Write Your Name, Oh My Country) performed by student Noah Al-Jajah, a fourth-year student at the Faculty of Communication Engineering.
  9. Songs (You Have Freedom) and ( Oh Dadi Oh Dadi La) performed by student Michael Nasser, a second-year student at the Faculty of Communications Engineering.
  10. Song (Your Flags Are High, Oh Syria) performed by student Yazan Dbis, a fourth-year student at the Faculty of Dentistry.

Different voices came together in a musical format that was both artistic and emotional, uniting the audience in moments of joy, sadness and hope for young talents who have enough passion and desire to instill a spirit of determination in students to move forward and turn their dreams into tangible realities filled with success.
