White Coat Ceremony Real Doctors and Pharmacists in Service of Humanity
Al-Wataniya Private University celebrated the White Coat Ceremony on Saturday, June 10th, 2023, as a global occasion with rituals adopted since the 1990s in medical colleges and health-related fields. Believing in the necessity of keeping up with the evolution in various fields, Al-Wataniya Private University dedicated all possible resources and efforts to elevate its students and involve them in their career path appropriately.
The opening speech was given by Arch. Ghaithaa Neiouf, who stated that “this scientific event is surrounded by hope that science is a trust passed from one generation to another, and that the future must be better as long as we continue to strive for excellence year after year… The horizon expands at Al-Wataniya Private University, and dreams soar with a solid foundation of consistent actions, deserving the glory of the image and radiance of vision. “
Prof.Dr. Ahed Khuzam, the President of Al- Wataniya Private University, welcomed the first-of-its-kind event in Syria, emphasizing the importance of entering the medical world through its widest doors. In his speech to the students, he said, “We are proud of each and every one of you for choosing your future medical profession. We are also very proud of your teaching staff and technical team who will provide you with all the support during your academic journey to reach your desired goal.”
Prof.Dr.Ahed Khuzam pointed out the importance of the Ceremony as “an important event where the medical community welcomes new students as future dentists and pharmacists. This journey that led to this day did not begin when students joined medical colleges but started from their childhood with preparation, education, encouragement from their parents and continuous support towards achieving their dreams.”
The White Coat Ceremony is known as a symbol of students’ transition into the real medical world with confident steps. It was held for first-year students in front of an audience under the auspices of Prof. Dr. Ahed Khuzam and Mr. Samir Al-Barazi, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Al-Wataniya Company for Science and Development , the members of the Company’s Board of Directors and the members of the University’s Board of Trustees. In the presence of deans of medical colleges and other faculties along with their educational and technical staff. The event was organized by the University Administration in cooperation with Media and Advertising Directorate, and the Public Relations Department to emphasize the importance of this profession with its humanitarian principles and noble meanings.
Hands were raised to perform a sincere pledge, which embodies values and noble goals, including honesty, serving humanity, and truly adhering to the values of the medical and pharmaceutical professions. It also emphasizes the importance of ethics in work, learning from previous medical stories and experiences, maintaining the reputation of the profession, and its ultimate goal of healing people and alleviating their pain.
This celebration is the first of its kind in Syria and at Al-Wataniya Private University. It serves as a reminder to dental and pharmacy students that this white coat is a call for ethical commitment to work, perseverance in learning, respecting the profession despite all difficulties that may arise, and working towards overcoming them. It is an opportunity for research, discovery, knowledge acquisition, compassion, and honesty to elevate their profession with a good reputation and build a bright professional life.
