A Joint Scientific Research by Prof. Dr. Rawaa S. Al-kayali from The Faculty of Dentistry and Other Researchers in The Scientific Journal Annals of Medicine and Surgery, Which is Listed in Scopus and Classified as Q3 According to Scimago Journal & Country Rank

The Annals of Medicine and Surgery, a Scopus-approved Journal, published a distinguished scientific research on 1/2/2023 by PhD Rawaa S. Al-kayali, a professor at the Faculty of Dentistry, in collaboration with phD.Abdullah Khouri, from Aleppo University, the researcher PhD. Mohamad F. Kashkash, from Aleppo University, and, MD.Azzam H. Alhussein Alhajji.

The research titled ” Activation of tuberculosis in recovered COVID-19

patients: a case report” was ranked Q3 according to Scimago Journal & Country Rank. Prof. Dr. Rawaa S. Al-kayali, and her fellow researchers conducted this scientific research based on accurate data indicating that COVID-19 and tuberculosis (TB) are among the most important diseases causing respiratory infections around the world. Both of them are sources of concern for human health and life safety. COVID-19 caused the deaths of millions of people, and many of them suffered from what has become known as ‘post-COVID squeal’. Immunosuppression is one of the most important of these symptoms that leave patients susceptible to severe infections like TB. Case Presentation: In these two cases, the authors observed the development of active TB after a period of COVID recovery. Two patients who were admitted to the hospital complained mainly, among other symptoms, of fever and a continuous cough after a period of COVID-19 recovery. Clinical Discussion: Radiological examination revealed a caving density in the two cases, and the Gene-Xpert test proved the presence of Mycobacterium tuberculosis bacteria despite the negative result of the Ziehl–Neelsen stain. The two patients were improved after standard TB treatment.

Through the study of research hypotheses and careful scientific examination of clinical cases, researchers have reached several results based on accurate and well-studied scientific data. These results have shown that patients who suffer from chronic respiratory symptoms after recovering from COVID-19 should be screened for tuberculosis, especially in countries where tuberculosis is prevalent.

It is worth noting the amount of scientific effort made by professors and doctors at Al-Wataniya Private University to promote the concept of scientific research among students and to constantly strive to engage in scientific research and make their own scientific mark that will serve as a reference for future generations of knowledge-loving Al-Wataniya  students.
