Prof.Dr. Hikmat Darwish – from the Faculty of Engineering – represented Al-Wataniya  Private University in one of the most prestigious international scientific conferences ICSPIC Conference – Paris 2022,that through his participation in this Conference, and his publication a scientific research article on 11/17/2022 entitled “Performance of PCA versus LDA for face recognition in Non-Ideal Lighting” in the periodical journal Springer Link Proceeding on ICSPIC conference 2022 as being a peer-reviewed scientific journal approved by Scopus.

The published scientific research falls within the filed of Information Technology IT – Random  signal processing – where the research was based on the use of identifying people by processing their photos or snap-shots of faces, either in off-line or real-time manners respectively. However, classical face recognition techniques have been reported to suffer from substantial degradation in performance when person image is subjected to non-ideal lighting or some types of occlusion. In real life we may well encounter a certain type of non-ideal lighting such as side-shadowing of the face, where substantial part of the face can be totally occluded or masked. In this work, it is  examined and evaluated the performance of two famous statistical approaches for AFR namely PCA and LDA in terms of Face Recognition Rate FRR.

 Prof.Dr. Hikmat Darwish received his BsC. Degree from Damascus University 1978 , M.Sc. Degree from Bradford University -UK- in digital telecommunication, and PhD Degree in radar systems and Computer Simulation .

That Prof.Dr. Hikmat Darwish is considered one of the pioneers in the field of scientific research, as he presented many scientific researches in his field and adopts them  as a main approach to achieving development and progress in the educational and teaching process at Al-Wataniya Private University.
