Invention and Development Science.. A Learnable Methodology
Prof. Dr. Jihad Abu Nassar commenced his scientific lecture by discussing the science of invention and development as a learnable science. He explained that it is based on clear foundations, a specific methodology, logical techniques, and learning methods that rely on an individual’s adoption of self-learning. This approach is beneficial for acquiring skills in analysis, synthesis, deduction, and advanced scientific research, ultimately leading to innovation and invention.
Regarding the clarification of different concepts related to the science of invention, Prof. Dr. Jihad Abu Nassar explained the fundamental differences between three concepts:
Prof. Dr. Jihad Abu Nassar reviewed the history of invention, starting from the discovery of fire—which led to the invention of tools utilizing friction to generate fire—reaching the invention of matches, metal scissors, the chair, the alphabet, wheels, and other inventions that evolved sequentially with modifications and developments added to their various structures and functions.
Conditions for Patent Acceptance and Registration Mechanism in Syria
Prof. Dr. Abu Nassar also discussed the conditions for accepting an invention and granting a patent, which centered on three main points:
In a related context, Prof. Dr. Jihad Abu Nassar, in cooperation with Dr. Moaz Al-Masalmeh, discussed the mechanism for verifying the novelty of an invention and ensuring it has not been previously developed by others. This is achieved by searching global patent search engines: (Espacenet, Patentscope, Google Patents, European Patent Office).
Based on the necessity of explaining the mechanism for registering patents in Syria, Dr. Moaz Al-Masalmeh provided an extensive explanation of the basics of writing a patent application. He clarified the most important laws followed in the registration process, the duration of protection for the invention, and the essential documents and pages required in the patent application.
This workshop is considered an important step in promoting the culture of invention, protecting intellectual property, and supporting Syrian students and innovators to bring their ideas to new levels that serve society, individuals, and the nation.
It was established in 2007 and includes six colleges:
