Al-Wataniya Private University hosted Mr. Majd Abdel Samad, Director of the Syrian Youth Initiative (SYE) in the United States, yesterday, Sunday, 10/08/2025. The event was an orientation session on the Syrian Youth Empowerment Initiative and the requirements for completing higher education abroad. The session was tailored for students aspiring to pursue undergraduate and postgraduate studies and to learn from the experiences of others.
The session was inaugurated by Mr. Abdel Samad in the presence of the university’s esteemed leadership, including President Professor Ahed Khouzam and Vice President for Scientific Affairs Dr. Hazem Milli, as well as deans of colleges and members of the academic and administrative staff. He began by introducing the SYE initiative and its programs, which aim to empower Syrian youth in conflict zones to pursue their dreams of higher education. The goal is to help them overcome barriers to their development, enhance their potential, and define their roles within their countries and communities.
Mr. Abdel Samad outlined several key steps for students seeking to continue their education at international universities. He highlighted the importance of acquiring academic writing and English language skills, researching universities to understand their specific requirements, and passing standardized tests such as TOEFL, GRE, GMAT, and IELTS. He also emphasized the necessity of securing letters of recommendation and all required official documents.
Regarding the primary criteria universities use for student admissions, Mr. Abdel Samad stressed the importance of a comprehensive application that includes university transcripts, extracurricular activities, practical experience, essays, volunteer work, specialized training, talents, and hobbies. He explained that these elements collectively create a positive and well-rounded profile of a student’s skills and experiences.
The orientation session featured extensive interaction among students, who actively exchanged ideas and perspectives. The event marked a crucial first step for students on their journey to pursue their dreams and develop the skills needed to build a promising academic and professional future.
