Al-Wataniya Private University’s Architecture and Urban Planning Students Conduct Scientific Visit to Al-Salam Residential Building in Hama
Students from the Faculty of Architecture and Urban Planning at Al-Wataniya Private University organized a scientific field trip on Saturday, May 3, 2025, to the Al-Salam Residential Complex in Hama city. The visit was supervised by the Dean of the Faculty, Professor Dr. Safwat Ibrahim Pasha, and directly organized and overseen by Dr. Eng. Mahmoud Qassab Hannan, Eng. Ziad Jaber, and Eng. Hossam Al-Shawi. The aim of the visit was to bridge the gap between the theoretical aspects and scientific terminology of the “Building Construction (1)” course and the practical, on-the-ground application.
This educational visit aimed to familiarize students with the structural construction elements and systems of residential buildings, as well as their building materials such as reinforced concrete and concrete blocks. The students were able to learn and understand the technical methods used in the implementation process, gaining insight into the procedures followed in detailing and installing the reinforcing steel for vertical structural elements such as columns and shear walls enclosing staircases and elevators.
Approximately thirty male and female students participated in this field visit to the Al-Salam Residential Building. Through this visit, they were able to learn about the stages of installing wooden formwork for load-bearing elements and the methods of dismantling and reusing the formwork after the reinforced concrete has hardened. The instructors provided them with a detailed explanation of expansion joints, their placement, and their design requirements in residential buildings.
This scientific visit represents a significant added value to the students’ theoretical academic knowledge, enabling them to deepen their understanding of course materials and acquire mechanisms and methods of practical field application. This positively reflects on increasing scientific benefit and raising the academic and professional standards of the students.
