The Child Care Association holds a handmade exhibition for young boys and girls with Down syndrome, hosted at Al-Wataniya Private University.
al-wataniya Private University hosted an exhibition of handmade by young people with Down syndrome at the university’s central library. The exhibition was organized by the Child Care Association of Homs in collaboration with the Dandashi Educational Foundation over the two days of Sunday and Monday, November 24-25, 2024. This event was made possible by the efforts of a group of young individuals with the syndrome of love, who have continued to strive year after year to achieve their goals and shape their successes with increased passion and dedication.
The exhibition activities were inaugurated with the esteemed presence of the president of Al-Wataniya Private University, Professor Dr. Ahed Khuzam, along with his deputy for scientific affairs, Dr. Hazem Melly, and Mr. Mohammed Ahmad Khalil, head of the National Union of Syrian Students branch at the university. The handmade exhibition showcased a remarkable diversity of various handmade and professional works that the young talents succeeded in crafting and shaping, all under the significant care and attention of the association’s administration and its professional staff.
Ms. Najwa Ebrahimi, the director of the Down Professional Center, spoke about the importance and role of events and exhibitions in the process of integrating young individuals with Down syndrome into society. “They provide opportunities for participation, interaction, and integration with their peers among university students. Today, they are capable of working and accomplishing various professional tasks and presenting them to society in the best possible way, which makes them, day by day, ambitious, strong individuals capable of working and achieving success.”
Regarding the key professional activities offered to young men and women with Down syndrome, Ms. Sahar Al-Akhras, a board member of the association, spoke about the main programs the association directs toward them: “Together, and with significant efforts from the local humanitarian community and generous contributions from charitable individuals, we have successfully established two centers. The first center focuses on providing educational services for children aged three to fourteen, which includes self-care, basic mathematics, reading and writing, religious studies, and other educational curricula directed at children. Meanwhile, the second center aims its activities towards youth, involving them in learning trades and handicrafts such as embroidery, sewing, barbering, cooking, clothing production, and other diverse activities.”
As confirmed by Ms. Najwa Ibrahimi, the director of the Down Professional Center, the importance of organizing the exhibition among students of the al-wataniya Private University lies in its significant role in breaking down barriers of shyness and fear for individuals with Down syndrome. She stated: “We always sense genuine feelings of joy and happiness when they participate in exhibitions and social events. We can see their joy and desire to connect and interact with others. It’s a real opportunity for them to reap the fruits of their efforts and to feel loved by everyone.”
Al-Wataniya Private University, represented by its President, Professor Dr. Ahed Khazam, takes pride in the humanitarian efforts made by local organizations in general and the Children’s Care Association in particular, to uplift the community and strengthen the bonds among its members by creating new communication channels that enhance awareness and knowledge of human value and the potential for success and creativity.
