Quality and Accreditation Directorate at Al-Wataniya Private University Holds a Valuable Scientific Lecture Titled: Risk Management in Educational Institutions
The Quality and Accreditation Directorate at Al-Wataniya Private University held a scientific lecture on Wednesday, May 14, 2025, titled “(Risk Management in Educational Institutions).” The lecture was delivered by Engineer Christine Abdullah, the Quality Officer at the university, in the presence of Dr. Hazem Milli, the Vice President for Academic Affairs and Director of the Quality and Accreditation Office, along with a number of administrative and academic staff members at the university.
Dr. Hazem Milli delivered a speech in which he praised the organization of such high-quality lectures for their role in elevating the administrative and institutional work environment at the university. He pointed out the importance of identifying the risks facing departments and divisions and the necessity of moving from reactive corrective action approaches to a proactive risk management process due to its significant effectiveness and tangible results in shielding institutions from challenges and risks.
Engineer Christine Abdullah began her scientific lecture by defining the concept of risk in organizational science, which directly affects the objectives and tasks of its departments, thus requiring the preparation of a set of procedures for analyzing, evaluating, and reviewing risks to ensure the effectiveness of control processes.
Regarding the advantages of risk management, Eng. Christine Abdullah highlighted its role in improving effective communication between departments to identify common risks, thereby ensuring increased operational efficiency, enhanced monitoring and accountability, and improved auditing processes. This requires the distribution of tasks and operations according to three lines of defense, starting from departments, directorates, and faculties, then moving to the internal audit department, and finally to the quality management at the university.
Eng. Christine Abdullah discussed with the administrative staff the strategies used in risk identification, shedding light on the types of risks that universities face, which varied between (strategic risks – operational risks – financial risks – informational risks – examination risks – student risks – academic risks, etc.). She specified the applied models used in recording and classifying risks, such as the Risk List Form QF 03.01 and the Risk Assessment and Control Form QF 03.02, leading up to the Risk Closure Status Follow-up Form QF 03.03, which together form the basis for the risk assessment process within the risk matrix.
This valuable scientific lecture is part of the ongoing work of the Quality and Accreditation Directorate at the university to develop quality strategies and empower administrative bodies and quality committees to acquire mechanisms for facing challenges, anticipating risks, and working to manage them optimally, which enhances the quality of institutional work at Al-Wataniya Private University.
