Prevalence of Premenstrual Disorder and Its Associated Symptoms Among Women: A Cross-Sectional Study with Analysis of Occupational and Social Factors

Premenstrual Syndrome (PMS) is a common disorder affecting women of reproductive age, characterized by recurrent psychological and physical symptoms in the premenstrual phase. This study assessed the prevalence of PMS and its associated symptoms among a sample of women, analyzing occupational and social factors. The sample included 284 participants, with results showing that 55.3% had PMS, of which 65% were moderate in severity. Psychological (e.g., anxiety, irritability) and physical symptoms (e.g., fatigue, hypersomnia) were predominant, with a marked impact on family relationships compared to occupational aspects. Statistical analyses revealed no significant link between occupation and syndrome severity (P=0.25). The findings highlight the need for awareness programs and psychological support targeting women, particularly in social contexts.
